What to Expect.
The following is general information for conference attendees including what to bring. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
Registration
The SOS rego desk opens at 1pm on Monday the 30th of June at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy and will be open from 8.30am to 6pm every day of the conference. Attendees are welcome to stay the night of the 5th of July and breakfast will be provided on the 6th for those who do, prior to the closing ceremony. Food at SOS 2014
Previous conferences have featured a Vegan kitchen for most of the participants, and a 'First Peoples Kitchen’ which prepared meat-based meals for Aboriginal delegates. This year we’re playing with this dividing line, and will offer a choice between something soy/legume based, or some meat, for the protein component of one meal each day. The meat will be sourced from local, agro-ecological farms conformant to the principle that eating animals can, in a select few cases, play an essential role in the healthy reproduction of ecological systems. Expected Behaviour
We all want to have an awesome time at SoS so there are some housekeeping rules to go over to keep everyone happy. Participants are encouraged to use safe, positive and constructive behaviour at all times. For more information on expected behaviour, please see our Safer Spaces policy and Participants' Agreement for involvement at SOS. As we are also camping at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy, we are expected to abide by the Aboriginal Protocol and Agreement. Please make sure you read and agree with this before coming to the Embassy. Accommodation
Canberra is the home of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy, and we have the special privilege of being invited to camp at the Embassy. Transport and billeting is available to those who require it. Read more about accommodation... Childcare
Childcare will be available during SoS. We will ask whether you require childcare when you buy your ticket and provide care accordingly. |
What to bring to SoS – the essentials!

- Tent AND tent pegs! Or if you don't have a tent, let us know when you register and we'll find you a spot. If you have a spare tent, please let us know when you register and bring one along!
- Warm clothes. Think layers so you don’t get caught out. We might end up with a couple of sunny days and a couple of REALLY cold days! T-shirts, jumpers, jacket, long-sleeved tops, comfy pants, shorts, socks, thermals etc.
