Can you be a Core Vollie during SOS?
This year's SOS will be a huge volunteer effort and we're calling on people to help us out with some some of the core volunteer roles for the festival.
The Core Volunteer is a support role for an organiser. There will generally be five core vollies, one for each day - some will work in pairs, some will be for a specific task depending what area you choose to volunteer in. As a key volunteer, you'll get together at the start of the conference with the key organiser and have a chat about what needs to happen each day and make sure everyone knows what's going on and everyone feels good about life. Perhaps you've volunteered or organised in this role before? Perhaps your thinking of organising an SoS with your mates in the future? Being a core volley is a great way to mentor others and enhance your skills. It will also ensure that the organisers get a break, get to go to some workshops and are dancing like crazy on the last night!! (well actually I'm not sure that anything would stop that :D) By everyone pitching in to make spaces beautiful, people feel cared for, projectors and amps work, we all get to come together to learn, grow and share, while keeping it financially accessible for more folks. |
What Core Vollies do we need?
SET UP - Making it amazing, we need to set up the kitchen, the elders space, rego desk, first aid tent, the stage/entertainment area, the quiet space/reading room, make signage and put it up, make everything beautiful!
DAY FACILITATOR - Key Facilitator (or Big Facilitating Giant, or BFG. We need one for each day - you'll wander around and make sure things are happening at more or less the right time, keep an eye out for technical problems or confused folks, be a point of contact for workshop hosts and generally make sure the day sails smoothly!) (Sign up on the core volley form)
REGO DESK/INFO - checking folks rego, selling tickets, dispensing wristbands, checking folks volley shifts, answering questions, giving out the program and reader.
MEAL COORDINATOR - The meal coordinators will have their menus emailed out to them well in advance, so when you arrive in the kitchen, you’ll get a handover from the last coordinator and get your boxes of food out and away they go. (Sign up on the core volley form)
COOKING - To chop and stir with good vibes and beautiful folks
INDIGENOUS SPACE COORDINATOR - Hang out with cool elders; manage volunteers; make sure everyone has everything they need; watch the vibes; work to facilitate amazing relationship building between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal participants (Sign up on the core volley form)
